Vientiane, September 7, 2025. Laotian President Thongloun Sisoulith considered the official visit of President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez to this sister nation a historic milestone in fraternal relations between Cuba and Laos.
After receiving the Caribbean head of state with a warm embrace at the Presidential Palace and performing the ceremony in front of the troops arrayed in his honor, the Laotian President offered him "a warm and fraternal welcome" during the official talks.
Sisoulith recalled the recent occasions they have met, most recently in places such as Moscow, Hanoi, and Beijing. The Laotian President sent cordial greetings to Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, whom he considered a dear friend. During the talks, in which they reviewed the current situation between both nations and the areas of bilateral cooperation, the Laotian President said that Cuba and Laos, more than just friendly countries, are a family.
President Díaz-Canel expressed his gratitude for the displays of affection and hospitality received since his arrival in Vientiane. He recalled his visit to that nation in 2018 and expressed that Cuba places great importance on bilateral ties and political dialogue with Laos. He described the bonds of friendship that unite both peoples as close and indestructible, and recalled how those ties date back to the late 1960s, when Cuban doctors provided assistance to the Laotian people in the Viengsay caves during the war.
