The Latin America and Spain Film Festival opens with the premiere of "Cuba Libre"
Palmerston North, October 15, 2017. - With the presentation of the film "Cuba Libre", the Latin American and Spanish Film Festival was inaugurated at The Globe theater in this city.
The Cuban film describes the relationship of two children who in 1898 live intensely the moment when the Americans are unveiled as an army of occupation, after the defeat of Spain in alliance with the Cuban independent forces. While presenting the film, Cuban Ambassador Mario Alzugaray referred to the value of this work, which offers important background on the origins of the Cuba - US conflict, marked by the latter’s historical desire for domination over the Caribbean island.
This event was coordinated together with the Latino Fiesta, organized by the City Council and the local community. Palmerston North Mayor Grant Smith, who was present at the event, highlighted the interest in continuing to promote ties with Latin America and Spain.
The audience had the chance to enjoy various presentations of Latin music and dance, among them the famous Wellington Batucada, the group C-26 and groups of dances formed by members of the community.
Leonel Alvarado, a professor at Massey University and a key figure in the organization of both events, reiterated his willingness to continue to promote awareness of hispanic culture in New Zealand.
"Cuba Libre" (2015), is a filmed directed by Jorge L. Sanchez, with Cuban celebrities Isabel Santos and Manuel Porto asuming some of the leading roles. (Embacuba NZ).
