Wellington, June 30, 2016.- "Cuba: past, present and future" was the theme of an event organized by Club Latino in this city, to exchange on different topics related to the Caribbean country. Main attraction was a presentation by the Cuban Ambassador, Mario Alzugaray, who exchange with participants on the current situation of his nation, in addition to a comprehensive presentation on the history of Cuba, dedicated to explain the essential elements in the formation of the Cuban nationality.
The occasion was also conducive to illustrate the audience about relations between Cuba and the United States, with emphasis on the origins of the conflict between the two countries, dating back to the annexationist interests from the North and subsequent neo-colonial domination that prevented the exercise of real sovereignty to the Cuban people up to the triumph of the Revolution in January 1959. Following interest of the public on the future of Cuba, the diplomat commented on priorities established for the updating of the Cuban economic and social model, which insisted should be consider an independent process that frequently media mistakenly links to the evolution of the process of rapprochement between Havana and Washington.
Later in the evening a cultural performance was staged by the local dance group Clave Collective, whose members recently made a tour around Cuba, which included stays in Havana, Cienfuegos and Trinidad. Rafael Laverde´s talent at the forefront of the show was cheered by those present, while Cuban cocktails turned out as great attraction with the delight of the popular Mojito.
The President of Club Latino, Fiona Mackenzie, described the event as a successful exchange and invited those present to visit the island, highlighting the popularity of Cuba as a tourist destination.
Club Latino of Wellington is an association established in 1963, which aims to promote knowledge of the Spanish language and the Hispanic and Latin American cultures, in addition to promoting diversity and strengthen ties with these peoples. (Embacuba NZ)
