Kuala Lumpur, November 25 - The humanist legacy of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro was highlighted today in Malaysia, on the occasion of the launching of the national chapter of the Network in defense of humanity that took place today at the Cuban Embassy.
The event, coordinated by the prestigious Malaysian intellectual Chandra Muzzafar, was attended by professors, lawyers, academics and researchers in the field of social sciences interested in being part of this movement of thought and action. In his words, Dr Muzzafar explained the importance of the Network in defense of humanity in the current conjuncture, where the right wing forces cling to power. He also expressed the need to exchange views from different latitudes on current issues.
The Cuban Ambassador to that country, Ibete Fernández, recalled the physical disappearance of the Commander-in-Chief six months ago and highlighted the role he played in the creation and promotion of the Network in defense of humanity as an alternative to the power of the mainstream media. She also acknowledged the decision of Malaysian intellectuals to join the initiative.
An exhibition of photos of Fidel was presented during the event and a fragment of the historic speech he delivered at the United Nations in 1979 where he called for the elimination of weapons to concentrate on crucial problems in order to save humanity.
Malaysia is the second country in Asia where the Network is established in defense of humanity.
