Dear Comrade,
67th Anniversary of Moncada attack
It is with great pleasure that the Communist Party of Sri Lanka sends this message of solidarity to mark the occasion of the 67th Anniversary of the Moncada Attack.
For Cuba July 26th represents the most important day of the year. On July 26th 1953, 124 rebels attacked the Moncada Barracks in Santiago, the capital of Oriente province in Cuba which was the second largest military post in the country.
While the Moncada attack failed in fulfilling its immediate objective, it was central to the Cuban people's struggle for national affirmation and social emancipation. Cubans have always placed Moncada in a broad historical context, viewing it as a crucial link in the century-long striving of Cuba to free itself from Spanish colonial domination and U.S. tutelage, and then, establish authentic independence. At his trial Fidel Castro delivered a speech that eventually became the manifesto of the movement to overthrow the Batista tyranny. It was published as History Will Absolve Me and laid out the national and social goals of the revolutionary movement that eventually triumphed on January 1, 1959.
History has given its judgment, vindicating the attack on the Moncada Barracks!
Thanks to the leadership given by the Communist Party since the triumphs of the Revolution, Cuba has scored high performances in each and every field of economy, culture, sports, education, health and social welfare of its population. All these achievements were gained while confronting the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US administration during the past 61 years which continues to be the main obstacle to the development of Cuba.
We the communists of Sri Lanka reiterate our fraternal solidarity with heroic people of Cuba and Communist Party of Cuba in the struggle against all forms of imperialist interventions.
Long Live the Martyrs of Moncada!
Long Live the Cuban Revolution!
