28th December, 2017 His Excellency Raul Castro Ruz President of the Council of State of Cuba Palacio de la Revolucion Havana Republic of Cuba Dear President Castro, The Government and the people of Antigua and Barbuda have the immense pleasure and honour of extending best wishes to you and the Government of the Republic of Cuba on the 59th Anniversary of the Cuban Revolution. This is indeed a formative and historical encounter which has had a highly significant impact, not only on the island of Cuba itself, but on Caribbean Nations. For many small island states like Antigua and Barbuda, the Cuban Revolution remains a symbol of significance as a unique and powerful form of resistance, and for its contribution towards the development of self-autonomy of Caribbean people. Your Excellency, the heroic efforts of Cuban leaders like the late Fidel Castro, Jose Marti and Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara, exemplified courage, resilience and great moral integrity. As a post-revolutionary leader, you have, not only maintained the vision of dynamism of the Cuban people but have managed to keep Cuba as an important, productive and relevant country among the nations of the world. Antiguans and Barbudans will forever honour and hold dear your visit and engagement with my government, during the recently held Sixth CARICOM-Cuba Summit during the 8th – 9th December, 2017. My government remains committed to supporting the principles of freedom designed to improve the lives of people emerging from the shadows of a turbulent history of forced transplantation, slavery and colonialism. We are highly appreciative of the support provided and solidarity shown to my country following the passage of hurricanes Irma and Maria in September 2017. Over the years, Cuba has proved to be one of the most loyal and steadfast friends to Antigua and Barbuda with a legendary generosity that has uplifted the lives of many citizens.
