The Central of Workers of Cuba (CTC) and its National Unions summon our people to celebrate International Workers' Day, preceded by the historic days of the 8th. Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba, turned into another forceful example of the unwavering decision to carry out the Revolution with the united effort of all Cuban patriots. Their agreements will constitute a compass that will guide the action of workers in the effort to continue forward in the implementation of the profound changes that we have proposed, as part of the updating of the Economic and Social Model of Socialist Development.
On this occasion, the May Day commemoration will take place virtually, presided over by the slogan "United: We do Cuba." Its main protagonists are the workers' collectives and the communities, where the deployment of creativity and multiple popular initiatives will reflect the joy, responsibility and commitment of the union movement, together with the workers, in the decisive battle to advance our economy, and the efficiency that is demanded of it, directing the priority to the increase of food production.
We workers are aware that we face a complex and challenging scenario, characterized by the criminal, unjustified and inhumane economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed unilaterally by the United States Government, intensified with the implementation of more than 240 new measures, to what is added the effects of a global pandemic. Both have impacted on a high contraction of the economy and the consequent shortage of the domestic market, which has caused the rise in prices and a decrease in the purchasing power of wages, as well as the paralysis or intermittence of the production processes of the campus industrial, generating a slowdown in our development programs.
To overcome these obstacles, we are encouraged by the deep conviction that only those who fight, resist and do not give up have the right to triumph, in addition to the consensus forged that the success of the economic strategy conceived is only possible with a more creative and innovative management, from existing resources and, above all, from our efforts.
At the same time, substantive transformations have been introduced in the labor scene, with the approval of measures aimed at providing greater autonomy to the socialist state enterprise, the application of a new policy for the improvement of the non-state sector and the implementation of the Ordinance Task, which, as a whole, become strengths, and while recognizing the shortcomings that persist, provide answers to the agreements of the XXI Congress of the CTC.
This May Day will also be an important stage to ratify the testimony of gratitude to the Health and Science workers, for their dedication and contribution to caring for the lives of Cubans and citizens of more than 46 countries in the world. To the compatriots who worked and continue to do so, on a voluntary basis, in the isolation centers, in the investigation and in the care of vulnerable sectors of the population.
It will be an occasion to recognize those who have kept working in the production of the country's primary sectors; to teachers whose meritorious efforts have made it possible, through teleclasses, to maintain the teaching program; to the artists and writers who continue to offer their work through various digital platforms, and at the same time face the discrediting campaigns against the Revolution and its cultural institutions.
Like every May Day, we will demonstrate solidarity with workers and trade union organizations that are victims of neoliberal policies in the world, and firmly defend justice and the recovery of their labor rights and social benefits.
Workers:
The activities to celebrate World Proletariat Day will ratify before the world the majority commitment of the Cuban people to carry forward our Marti, socialist and fidelista project.
We will send, once again, to every corner of the planet, the message that Cuba will always be a living, united and victorious Homeland.
Long live International Workers' Day!
Ever onward to victory!
National Secretariat of the CTC.
