Kuala Lumpur, October 14- Under the name “From Malaysia to Cuba: a bridge of music” a musical concert took place to commemorate the day of national culture and as part of the activities to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in this Southeast Asian country.
Organized by the Cuban embassy in collaboration with Soka Gakkai Malaysia, the Selangor youth philharmonic orchestra and the support of the Malaysia-Cuba Friendship Association, the concert recreated various genres of several live and also classical Cuban composers, including Master Guido López Gavilán, Beatriz Corona, Wilma Alba Cal, Roberto Valera, José White, Claudio Brindis de Salas and Joseito Fernández.
In his words of welcome, the president of Soka Gakkai Malaysia praised the values of Cuban culture and recalled the meeting between Daisaku Ikeda, founder of Soka Gakkai and Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, how they maintained a beautiful friendship based on respect and admiration . For his part, Tan Sri Khalid, President of the Friendship Association with Cuba, highlighted in his speech the resistance of the Cuban people to safeguard their conquests, which is commendable given the constant aggressions to which Cuba has been subjected.
Ambassador Ibete Fernández, for her part, highlighted the date of October 20, 1868 and mentioned that on that day poetry joined patriotism that shaped the identity of Cubans and their determination to safeguard their independence at any cost. She also stressed the importance of culture to unite peoples. She concluded by thanking the collaborators who made it possible to finalize the project.
The concert concluded with the interpretation of “Hoy mi Habana” by the Cuban resident artist Meivys Sahily, accompanied by the symphony orchestra in tribute to Havana on its 500th anniversary that will be celebrated on November 16.
The event was attended by the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture of Malaysia, Dato Mohamaddin bin Ketapi, the president of the Friendship Parliamentary Group, other members of Parliament and the Senate, representatives of the diplomatic corps, graduates in Cuba, members of the Association of Friendship and Soka Gakkai Malaysia among others.
