Malaysia reiterates support to Cuba against the blockade

Kuala Lumpur, October 8 - Malaysian Deputy Foreign Minister Dato MarzukiYahya received the Cuban ambassador to Malaysia, Ibete Fernández Hernández, at the Foreign Ministry's headquarters.

During the meeting the parties assessed the development of the bilateral relations and agreed on the need to work together to strengthen them. After an information on recent developments in Cuba, the Cuban diplomat explained about the damages caused to Cuba by the blockade and its extraterritorial scope and informed about the vote on October 31, of the Cuban resolution against this unjust policy, which Malaysia has traditionally supported.

Deputy Minister Marzuki reiterated Malaysia's position against this unilateral measure in accordance with the principles of the country's foreign policy.

Dato Marzuki was elected to the post after last May's general election and is also the General Secretary of the Malaysian United Indies Party (PribumiBersatu Malaysia) led by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
