Kuala Lumpur, May 16 - The director of multilateral political affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, Jamal Sharifuddin Johan received the ambassador of Cuba in Malaysia Ibete Fernandez on a courtesy visit.
During the meeting the Cuban ambassador congratulated the Malaysian diplomat for his recent promotion and moved the willingness to work together to maintain the good state of bilateral political relations and the level of coordination reached in the multilateral sphere.
The ambassador updated Mr. Sharifuddin on the recent aggressive escalation of the United States towards Cuba, based on the implementation of new measures aimed at strengthening the blockade and the enforcement of Title III of the Helms Burton Act, underlining its illegality and the attack that it constitutes the sovereignty of Cuba and other states.
Mr. Jamal thanked the information and ratified that Malaysia will always support Cuba against the blockade as an unfair measure. He also said that the Helms Burton Act constitutes a violation of international law.
Both diplomats agreed on the need for greater bilateral cooperation in the current international situation.
