A march for the honor and dignity of the Homeland

Oslo, December 21, 2024. More than 500,000 people, on behalf of the whole Cuba, flooded Havana's Malecon seaside this Friday December 20, in a huge and impressive Combative March, to raise their voices against the blockade imposed by the U.S. government for more than sixty years and the permanence of Cuba on the unilateral, arbitrary and spurious list of State sponsor of terrorism.

The Cuban people met from the Anti-Imperialist Tribune, located in front of the Embassy of the United States, with the presence of Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution; the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, and other representatives of the leaderships of the Party, State and Government, youth, student and mass organizations, and officials of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Ministry of the Interior.

Before the march stepped off, President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, from a platform located, precisely, in front of the sculpture of José Martí, the Cuba´s National Hero, pronounced a vibrant speech. He said that the march was an example of how the Cuban people fight for their sovereignty and their principles despite the obstacles that the blockade imposes on the social and economic life of the country.

He stated that the current U.S. administration has done nothing to move away from the line of reinforced blockade and economic suffocation of Cuba that was left as a legacy by the Republican administration that returns to the Oval Office in January.  “With the application of the 243 additional measures and the maintenance of Cuba on the list of countries sponsoring terrorism, Biden has disciplinedly and cruelly complied with the policy that Trump approved during his term”, he added.

The President of the Republic stressed that there have been numerous statements by personalities from the United States and other parts of the world demanding that Biden use his power to at least remove from that spurious list “the name of a nation that should never have been on it”.

“Pointing to Cuba as a State that allegedly sponsors terrorism is at the very least false and immoral, no matter where the accusation comes from, but it is doubly so when the accusation comes from US territory, where paramilitary groups that organize, promote and finance terrorist actions against social and economic structures in Cuba are currently training”, the President asserted.

Díaz-Canel considered that “Cuba's continued presence on that list and the intensification of the blockade policy are ruthless actions against the Cuban people that must cease now”.

“The United States' attempt to undermine the dignity of this people by means of the club has been destroyed today with this rally and combative march, which shows how high the honor of our country continues to be!, the Cuban President stated.

Díaz-Canel ratified that we do not profess the slightest feeling of hatred or animosity against the American people”.

In the voice of the President of Cuba, the feelings of an entire people were heard, convinced that if the United States persists in its efforts to undermine its sovereignty, independence and socialism, it will only find rebellion and intransigence. “Every administration that has tried has been outlived by the Cuban Revolution, and it will continue to be so”.

“We march now, to tell the United States Government: Let the Cuban people live in peace!” With this call, the march of just over a kilometer began, along the Malecón seaside, until reaching Avenida de los Presidentes, the G Street in Vedado. Raúl and Díaz-Canel led the march

and a united people advanced with a firm step.

Along the way, numerous slogans were heard condemning Washington’s hostile policy; demanding the end of the blockade and the removal of Cuba from the illegitimate “list” of countries sponsoring terrorism and supporting the Revolution that in a few days will reach its 66th anniversary.

The march that lasted around an hour and 45 minutes was a march for life, honor and dignity. It was a march for the future of all the Cuban people, who continue to spread joy, confidence and optimism, even in the midst of adversity.

With this March, the Cuban people showed, as so many times in Cuba´s history, the greatest strength that we continue to count on: the unity of the nation.
