Marti's ideals live on in Cubans residing in Jamaica.

Marti's ideals live on in Cubans residing in Jamaica.

Spanish Town, 26 January 2024. During the celebration of the homage to our National Hero at the "José Martí" Technical High School, the figures of two Spanish teachers, Pastor Cruz and Nelson Brown, stand out. Both are Cuban residents with different life stories, but with one thing in common: their love for teaching, the history of Cuba and Martí's ideals.

Nelson explains that in his classes he brings the students closer to simple verses and invites them to study the life and work of the most universal of Cubans; while Pastor, although he is now retired, is a key figure for dialogue at the centre on the history of our country and Marti's and Fidelista thought. They consider it a gift to be directly linked to one of the centres donated by the Cuban people and government to Jamaica, where thousands of young people have already graduated and are now working in various spheres of economic, political and social life on this Caribbean island.
