Port Louis, February 28, 2026 – The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade of Mauritius, the Honorable Dhananjay Ramful, received the Ambassador of Cuba, Her Excellency Susellys Pérez Mesa, with a shared commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
During the productive meeting, the Minister and the Ambassador discussed opportunities to advance ties between the two countries in various areas and advocated for greater coordination in international forums.
The head of diplomacy for this African nation in the Indian Ocean reiterated Port Louis's long-standing support against the United States blockade and expressed regret for the negative impact these sanctions have on the Cuban people.
He also expressed his gratitude for Havana's continued support of actions related to the recognition of Mauritius' sovereignty over the Chagos Archipelago.
Ramful inquired about general aspects of Cuba, particularly in light of this year's 50th anniversary of bilateral relations.
The Ambassador, for her part, briefed the Foreign Minister on the complex situation imposed on the Caribbean island, highlighting the recent, more negative shift in Washington's policy following the executive order of January 29.
Pérez Mesa discussed the global reaction to the intensification of the US economic, commercial, and financial blockade, as well as the need for Mauritius's support in the face of actions that violate international law and trade regulations and threaten national sovereignty.
She also elaborated on the historic support of the overwhelming majority of the international community for the resolution passed annually at the UN General Assembly calling for an end to the blockade.
As part of the program at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ambassador of Cuba held exchanges with the Director of United Nations Affairs and its Specialized Agencies, NAM, SDGs and SIDS, N. Udaiyan, and the head of America, Europe, Asia and Oceania, Ambassador K. Jingree.
