From May 4 to 6, the VII International Seminar for Peace and for the Abolition of Foreign Military Bases will take place in Guantánamo, an event in which the easternmost Cuban province will once again be the capital of world solidarity.
The note published in Cubadebate states that the event is sponsored by the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples. The event brings together academics, trade union leaders and pacifists who speak out for the closure of more than 800 foreign military bases around the world.
The source specifies that the meeting of the World Peace Council will be held in parallel, which will be attended by representatives of the Americas region and will be chaired by the Brazilian María de Socorro Gomes.
For more than 120 years, the different US administrations have maintained an illegal military base in Guantánamo Bay against the will of the Cuban government and people.
