Nicosia, Cyprus, May 19, 2026.- The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, was received this morning by the Mayor of the coastal city of Larnaca, Mr. Andreas Vyras, who offered the Caribbean diplomat a warm and cordial welcome at the headquarters of the territorial government of the third largest city on the Mediterranean island, after Nicosia and Limassol.
During the fraternal exchange, the Larnaca governor offered the visitor an overview of the tourist attractions that today identify this city in motion and permanent constructive remodeling, now the capital city of the eponymous district that hosts the country's second port and most important airport.
For his part, Pino Martínez thanked the host official for the opportunity to participate last Sunday in the inauguration of the 2026 Special Olympics of Cyprus, in that coastal city; at the same time, he was able to anticipate new proposals for bilateral events that will help enrich the Cooperation Agreement signed in 2023 between that Cypriot municipality and the Provincial Government of Santiago de Cuba, in the field of cultural and economic cooperation.
A promising exchange to evaluate and update on bilateral and common interest issues, where both parties reiterated their willingness to promote joint actions and related projects, amid the current difficult conditions that today afflict the largest of the Antilles, as a result of the blockade and the energy siege imposed by the United States against the Caribbean island. ´
As a starting point, a day dedicated to Cuba will be coordinated at the headquarters of a local enterprise in Larnaca, determined to become a permanent space for the promotion of Cuban culture, and as a prelude to future initiatives that further strengthen the existing ties between both peoples and nations.
From that point on, Larnaca could become an alternative and recurring venue for the commemoration of Cuban Culture Day in these beautiful areas of the southeastern Cypriot coast.
