More than one hundred health professionals, members of the Henry Reeve Brigades arrived today in Saint Lucia, in response to the call from this sister country for support in their work against the Coronavirus Pandemic. The Brigade was received by Hon. Sarah Flood-Beaubrun, Minister for External Affairs; Sen. The Hon. Mary Isaac, Minister for Health and Hon. Bradley Felix, Minister for Commerce; together with the Cuban Ambassador in this country Alejandro Simancas. In her welcome remarks, the Health Minister thanked Cuba for its solidarity and gave a reminder that these were the ideals and teachings of Fidel and she ended her remarks with the exclamation "¡Viva Fidel!" while the Minister for External Affairs expressed that Cuba had once again shown itself to be a true friend and example of solidarity and love for the whole world. The group composed of Doctors, Nurses and Biomedical Engineers received the warm welcome and applause from the people of Saint Lucia who lined up the Airport.
On the occasion of the arrival of this Medical Brigade, the Prime Minister Allen Chastanet issued a Press Release in which he welcomed them to Saint Lucia and expressed "his deepest appreciation for this immense display of brotherhood from the always friendly island of Cuba". He expressed " his gratitude, on behalf of the Government and people of Saint Lucia, to the President of Cuba for his effort in making this assistance a reality". He highlighted that "this is a true display of unity and caring affection" and he said that he feels proud that Cuba is among the nations who are leading the fight against COVID-19.
