Meeting between the Cuban Ambassador and MP David Parker

Wellington, March 13, 2025—The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to New Zealand, Luis Ernesto Morejón Rodríguez, held a cordial meeting with MP David Parker, the Labour Party's Foreign Affairs Spokesperson. During the meeting, the Cuban diplomat provided an update on the current situation in his country and the state of bilateral relations between Cuba and New Zealand.

MP David Parker fondly recalled his visits to Cuba, where he had the opportunity to travel across various provinces in the eastern and western regions of the country. In this context, he highlighted the warmth of the Cuban people and the rich cultural and historical heritage that characterizes the Caribbean nation.

The occasion also served as an opportunity for the Cuban Ambassador to express his gratitude to the Labour MPs who signed Progressive International’s letter calling for the removal of U.S. sanctions on Cuba, including its designation on the list of alleged state sponsors of terrorism.

Both parties agreed that it is important to continue strengthening cooperation and dialogue between the two countries in areas of mutual interest.
