Wellington, March 12, 2025- In an atmosphere of cordiality and mutual respect, the Cuban Ambassador to New Zealand, Luis Ernesto Morejón Rodríguez, held a fruitful meeting with the Honorable Mariameno Kapa-Kingi, Member of the New Zealand Parliament and representative of Te Pātī Māori.
During the meeting, both parties exchanged views on topics of mutual interest, including strengthening bilateral relations between Cuba and New Zealand, cooperation in key areas such as health, education, and culture, as well as the importance of recognizing and protecting the rights of indigenous peoples.
The Cuban Ambassador expressed his country’s commitment to solidarity and respect for cultural diversity, highlighting Cuba’s progress in promoting inclusive social policies and supporting indigenous peoples in Latin America and the Caribbean. Additionally, opportunities for educational exchange were discussed, particularly in the training of healthcare professionals, an area in which Cuba has maintained notable international cooperation.
For her part, the Honorable Mariameno Kapa-Kingi emphasized the importance of building bridges of collaboration between both nations and positively valued Cuba’s social development model, particularly its focus on equity and universal access to basic services. She also expressed her interest in exploring new avenues of cooperation for the benefit of Māori and New Zealand communities in general.
The meeting reaffirmed the bonds of friendship and solidarity between Cuba and New Zealand, laying the foundation for future joint initiatives that will strengthen understanding and cooperation between both countries.
