Minister Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz was received this Friday by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Barbados, Senator Dr. the Most Honorable Jerome X. Walcott, JP.

The meeting took place in a fraternal atmosphere in which both delegations exchanged on the excellent state of bilateral relations and ratified the will to continue expanding cooperation between the two countries.

The Barbadian Minister conveyed his gratitude for the cooperation received from Cuba, particularly in the areas of health and human resource training. He expressed his interest in holding the VIII CARICOM-Cuba Summit to be held in December of this year in Barbados.

For his part, the Cuban Minister conveyed his gratitude for the traditional vote in favor of our resolution in relation to the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba; emphasizing that we have had the Barbadian vote for more than twenty years. In addition, he invited Minister Walcott to participate in the Havana Trade Fair FIHAV.

Both leaders also exchanged on the progress of the excellent relations between the member countries of CARICOM and Cuba. They highlighted the importance of this visit within the framework of the 50th Anniversary of relations between that group of Caribbean countries and Cuba.

The Barbadian Minister was accompanied by the Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister, The Most Honorable Alies Jordan, the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Ms. Simone Rudder, and the Director of CARICOM of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Sandra Gittens.

Also present on the Cuban side were Janet Fernández, director of MINCEX Trade Policy, the director of Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean of MINREX, Gustavo Véliz Olivares, and the Cuban Ambassador to Barbados, Sergio Jorge Pastrana.
