Meeting with the co-president of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship with Latin America and the Caribbean.

Wellington, March 28, 2024.- The Cuban Ambassador to New Zealand, Luis Ernesto Morejón Rodríguez, had a meeting with the co-chair of the Latin American and Caribbean Friendship Group in the New Zealand Parliament, MP Ricardo Menéndez March.

The focus of the meeting was to discuss proposals to strengthen collaboration in the academic and cultural fields between both countries. During the meeting, the Cuban ambassador expressed interest in promoting cooperation between academic institutions in Cuba and New Zealand. The proposals discussed included student and faculty exchanges, joint research, and the organization of conferences and seminars on topics of common interest.

Both officials also explored opportunities to promote greater cultural exchange between Cuba and New Zealand. This includes collaboration on artistic events, exhibitions, and festivals that allow citizens of both countries to better understand and appreciate each other's cultures.

During a recent meeting between Cuban and New Zealand officials, a proposal for a virtual exchange between the two countries’ legislative representatives was discussed. This initiative aims to promote dialogue and the exchange of ideas on issues of mutual interest while strengthening ties between the parliaments of both nations.

The Cuban ambassador expressed gratitude towards Deputy Menéndez for his support and dedication to promoting relations between Cuba and New Zealand. In response, Deputy Menendez emphasized the importance of building bridges of understanding and cooperation between the two countries, particularly in areas such as culture and education.
