The Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in the United Arab Emirates was once again the venue for the meeting with the community of Cubans living in the Arab nation. This was the third time that our compatriots, accompanied by their families, met to share their love for their homeland and their culture.
The space was also conducive to introducing the new work team of the Embassy, as well as the Cuban Consul, Anidelys Rojas Perera, to present a summary of the new Laws on Citizenship, Migration and Foreigners, approved by the Cuban Parliament last July. During the meeting, some of the questions of those present regarding the subject of citizenship and resettlement in Cuba were addressed. Once again, the measures adopted in favor of the Cuban community living abroad were recognized, being the result of a new update of our legislative provisions adjusted to the reality of Cuban migration at this time and having attended to the concerns of our compatriots abroad in recent years.
Cuban Ambassador, Norberto Carlos Escalona Carrillo, in addition to welcoming and thanking everyone for their presence at our headquarters, reiterated the willingness of our Government to establish commercial relations with Cubans living abroad, explaining that, as representatives of the same, we are in the best position to guide and support them in this regard, in pursuit of mutual benefit. He also spoke about the current economic situation in Cuba, a topic of interest to all our compatriots, given the difficult circumstances our country is going through due to the blockade.
This time, those present were lucky enough to enjoy live Cuban music, from the hands of Lilian and Rosaima, members of the duo named “Qahwa Dulce”, which in Arabic means “Sweet Coffee”. They performed songs that are icons of Cuban culture, which always bring to the surface the most tender feeling towards our culture and our Cuban land. They also enjoyed a very simple menu but prepared with much love of our typical Cuban cuisine that is so missed far from Cuba.
The mission team reiterated the permanent willingness to continue expanding ties with the Cuban community present in the United Arab Emirates, and the confidence that we will be here to attend to the requests in which we can help. Because as Miguel Barnet said "To be Cuban you do not have to be limited to a geography, it is a condition of the soul and the spirit" and that was the essence of the meeting.
