Meeting of the Cuban ambassador with the Governor of the Western Province of Sri Lanka

Colombo, November 13, 2024. The Honorable Governor of the Western Province of Sri Lanka, Mr. Hanif Yusoof, received the Cuban ambassador Andrés Marcelo González Garrido.
During the fraternal meeting, the ambassador congratulated him on his recent appointment as governor and updated him on the progress of bilateral relations in the political and commercial spheres, thanking Sri Lanka for its continued support for the Cuban resolution against the blockade that is approved by a majority at the United Nations headquarters year after year.
For his part, the governor thanked Cuba for its friendship and expressed that despite the difficult economic situation it faces, it continues to grant scholarships to Sri Lanka and cooperate with the country.
The governor and the ambassador agreed on the need to strengthen cooperation and relations in areas such as health and biotechnology.
The meeting was attended by the Head of Public Relations Office Aritha Wickramasinghe, from the Governor's office, Mohamed Cader and Maribel Duarte González, First Secretary of the Cuban Embassy.
The Western Province is one of the nine provinces of Sri Lanka, being the most densely populated in the country and houses the capital of Sri Lanka, Colombo, the administrative and commercial center of the nation.
The Western Province is divided into three administrative districts; Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara, which cover an area of 3,684 km2, with 40 divisional secretariat divisions and 2,505 Grama Niladhari divisions.
