Vientiane, October 2023. Ambassador Enna Viant Valdés held a friendly meeting with Mr. Daovy Vongxay, Director of International Organizations, and officials of that Department of the Lao Foreign Ministry.
Mr. Daovy Vongxay praised the organization, development and results of the recent Summit of Heads of State and Government held in Havana.
At the summit, leaders of member countries discussed ways to use science, technology and innovation (STI) to address global challenges, while reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the unity of the largest group of developing countries at the United Nations.
Daovy highlighted President Thongloun's speech on which he congratulated Cuba for hosting the G77+China summit and assessed the implementation of the 2030 Development Agenda, noting that developing countries are facing an economic downturn, which is hampering their progress towards meeting their Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
President Thongloun called for new ways to restore socio-economic conditions by using modern information technology to support the implementation of the international development agenda and achieve the SDGs, and also assured that Laos has prioritized science, technology and innovation to solve challenges and promote green growth and digital economy.
The Government of Laos is committed to using science, technology and innovation to meet challenges and promote sustainable and digital economic growth," said President Thongloun, while stressing the need for international support for infrastructure construction, human resource development and investment in STI sectors.
Laos proposed the creation of a stronger cooperation mechanism to encourage developing countries to research, develop and use science, technology and innovation as a driving force for sustainable development.
The Cuban diplomat, while thanking Laos for its permanent support and cooperation on multilateral issues, including the important battle to end the U.S. blockade against Cuba, reiterated the will to strengthen bilateral ties and deepen collaboration.
