As part of the activities on the occasion of the Africa Day, a representation of the Cuban Embassy, led by the Ambassador Pedro Luis Despaigne González, went to the home of Mr. King Ampaw, an important Ghanaian filmmaker, who has been awarded at important events in Africa and Europe.
Mr. Ampaw donated to the Cuban Embassy the rights to show the film “No time to die”, which he made in 2006, with great acceptance in the Ghanaian public. The filmmaker, who arrived at the age of 79, commented on his stay in the former German Democratic Republic (GDR) in the 1960s, the country from which his admiration for Cuba began and pointed out his dream for presenting his film works in our country.
The Cuban Ambassador, after thanking the cinematographic donation, stressed the importance for the Cuban public of works by African filmmakers, which show the life of the peoples, without the artifices coined by the West. He also emphasized the historical ties between Ghana and Cuba, the formation in Cuban classrooms of more than three thousand Ghanaians, being an expression of the same.
The meeting with the filmmaker was an opportunity for the visitors to learn more about the film culture of Ghana, and the African continent in general. (Cubaminrex / Embacuba Ghana)
