Kingston, Jamaica, 25 April 2019. Anthony Hylton, Member of Parliament and Opposition Spokesman on National Physical Planning and Development with NHT in Jamaica, reiterated his opposition to the economic, financial and commercial blockade of the United States against Cuba.

During a fraternal meeting with the Ambassador of this Caribbean nation to Jamaica, H.E. Mrs. Inés Fors Fernández, at the headquarters of the Cuban diplomatic mission, both dignitaries analyzed the situation set in the wake of the recent announcement of new measures by the United States government to intensify the economic war against Cuba.

On April 17, 2019, the US government announced the activation of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act and the entry into force of new measures aimed at tightening the economic siege against Cuba. Title III reinforces, in a dangerous manner, the extraterritorial component of the blockade policy imposed on the Cuban people and represents an attack on International Law and the sovereignty of Cuba and third States.

The Parliament of Jamaica has approved, for ten consecutive years, motions condemning the US blockade. The first one was presented by Anthony Hylton in October 2009, in his capacity as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade. The text approved at that time qualifies the blockade as "a relic of the Cold War," while referring to the international condemnation that the aforementioned policy generates.

The Ambassador of Cuba reiterated her gratitude for the firm and historic stance of the Jamaican legislative branch.
