Members of the Cuban medical cooperation brigade save more than 5,000 lives in Jamaica.

Kingston, Jamaica, 8 October 2020. Members of the Cuban medical cooperation brigade report today in Jamaica 5,881 lives saved and continue to support local efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19 on the front line.

The Embassy of Cuba in Kingston told Prensa Latina that in the last month the medical personnel provided healthcare to 45,115 citizens, while the total number of patients attended from April to August rose up to 270,775.

At the end of August, healthcare professionals from the Largest Island in the Antilles performed a total of 53,329 nursing procedures and 200 surgeries in hospitals in all four regions and 14 parishes in Jamaica.

Working hours during the 30 days of September reported 945 lives saved, the highest figure in the last six months they have provided medical assistance to the Jamaican people, as compared to the 716 reported in April, 812 in May, 823 in June, 870 in July and 915 in August.

Amid the spread of Covid-19 on Jamaican territory, all 413 Cuban internationalists do not lower their guard in complying with sanitary protocols to avoid contagion and continue providing care to the local population, the diplomatic mission noted.

Cuba's medical assistance to Jamaica is supported by the Peace Council, the Patriotic Movement and the Friendship Association, who have repeatedly condemned the United States blockade and advocated for the Nobel Peace Prize for the Henry Reeve contingent.

According to the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Jamaica woke up today with 7,191 confirmed cases, of which 2,700 have recovered, 4,268 still remain as active patients and 126 people died.
