A Memorandum on Education is signed between the Commonwealth of the Bahamas and Cuba

Nassau, February 21st, 2020. The Minister of Education of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, Honorable Jeffrey L. Lloyd and the Cuban ambassador in that country Alejandro García del Toro signed today the renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding between the ministries of education of the two countries. Senior executives of that Bahamian institution and diplomats of the Cuban mission in that archipelago attended the ceremony.

Prior to the signing, Jeffrey Lloyd highlighted the work that Cuban teachers have done since this collaboration began seventeen years ago, and stressed the importance of the work of special education specialists. On the other hand, the director of Education of the Commonwealth Marcelus Taylor highlighted the professional preparation of Cuban teachers, as well as their willingness to fulfill their duties not only in Nassau, but also in several of the farthest from the Commonwealth.

Alejandro García del Toro said that the work of the teachers of the island is a small contribution to the effort of the Bahamian Ministry of Education and government in the training of young people, and in meeting the particularly important needs in matters of special education. He also said that education being an essential factor in the development of any society, the work of Cubans is done in the spirit of the José Martí´s adage that says: “knowing how to read is knowing how to walk, and knowing how to write is knowing how to ascend”.

The representative of the Cuban Ministry of Education, José Reinel García Sánchez and Yusimí Pompa Santos, first secretary of the Cuban embassy ​​attended for the Cuban embassy.
