Message from Giannis Giokas, member Greek Parliament by Communist Party of Greece (KKE) , secretary general of Parliamentary Group of Friendship with Cuba and member of Central committee KKE.
The pandemic brought to the fore the huge problems that already existed in the public health systems, even in the powerful capitalist states, such as the USA. The images of mass graves, with the choice of who would live and who would die, with the global trade war over access to vital healthcare supplies, are totally outrageous.
At the same time, the pandemic functions as a catalyst for the expression of a new deep economic crisis, the consequences of which the working people and the peoples all over the world are being forced to pay for, as well as a dramatic increase in social inequality
Parliament members of the Communist Party in Greece have attempted to highlight the huge deficiencies in the public health care system that were created and for which the governments are responsible, we tried to fight for solutions, to highlight the need for protection measures for working people, so that they would not pay for the crisis.
In these circumstances, we consider the exchange of views of the parliamentary friendship groups very useful, because the current crisis is global and affects all the peoples.
Cuba's solidarity with its sending doctors and other health care workers to various countries, even to powerful capitalist states, is extremely important, but also extremely instructive. Cuba is, once again, consistent in its internationalist solidarity, as it has proven many times before. It shows above all the achievements of the Cuban revolution and the possibilities of Socialism.
And all this at a time when Cuba is a country that is constantly targeted by imperialism, the United States, with the unacceptable lethal blockade. On this occasion, we, the parliament members of the KKE, want to emphasize the need for an immediate end to the blockade imposed by the United States and its allies, as well as our commitment to continue our internationalist efforts to this end.
We are sending to the Cuban people a powerful message of solidarity and comradeship. The pandemic will be cured. Capitalism is incurable and will continue to torment the peoples if it is not overthrown. The people must come to the forefront and have the right to choose their own path of economic and social development
