Re: Message to the Cuban Party Government and people

We take the opportunity to issue our profound solidarity in the struggle of the Cuban Party Government and people against the economic and financial embargo imposed on Cuba by the United States, which embargo has been consistently condemned by the United Nations General Assembly, consistently over the 20 plus years.

The Government’s and people of the Caribbean have also added their voices both at the UN and in several statements issued, pointing to the debilitating and negative effects and the extra regional and extra territorial implications of US domestic law, which has far reaching effects on the international relations between independent states and Cuba.

This embargo is not just unjust and unfair, but is also inhumane and has hurt the Cuban people tremendously, unnecessarily increasing the cost to the Cuban economy in doing normal legitimate business. We join the voices of Caribbean Government, political parties and peoples in asking for an end to the blockade particularly in the wake of the Covid -19 crisis and the rising inflation throughout the world.  This blockade has put a tremendous set of unnecessary difficulties, restrictions and burdens on the Cuban people.

In keeping with the well-established principles of non-interference of the internal affairs of states, and taking into consideration the new enormous human suffering brought on by these economic and other sanctions on the Cuban State and people, we join the rest of the Caribbean and the world in offering our solidarity to the Cuban government and Cuban people and call for an immediate lifting of those sanctions in the interest of human rights and the rights of people to determine their own destiny.

Sincerely

Roland Bhola
