Message of empathy from Honorable Dickon Mitchell, Prime Minister of Grenada to His Excellency Miguel Díaz-Canel, President of the Republic of Cuba on the occurrence of the disastrous oil tanker explosions in Northwestern Cuba.

It is with a sense of immense horror that Grenadians have learnt of the unexpected disaster of the explosions over the last two days.

My cabinet colleagues and all Grenada join me in expressing profound empathy with you at this time. Cuba is no stranger to acts of nature that cause untold suffering. Our prayers and thoughts are with you at this time as you search for the missing and we wish the injured a speedy recovery.

Grenada is acutely aware of the resilience of the Cuban people in the face of disasters of nature and we know that resilience will be the foundation of the recovery process.

Grenada and Cuba share a bond that is unbreakable and as we empathize with you at this point, we take the opportunity to commend the Cuban Government for its handling of the situation.

Excellency, I take the opportunity to wish you and your family well, that I am grateful you were out of harm´s way and to wish Cubans all prosperity as the recovery process commences.
