Message from General Secretary of Communist Party of Sri Lanka to the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez on the occasion of the 72nd anniversary of the historic attack on the Moncada Barracks.

Comrade Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez
First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba
President of the Republic of Cuba

Dear Comrade Díaz-Canel,
On behalf of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka and all revolutionary forces in our country, we extend our warmest and most militant revolutionary greetings to you, the Communist Party of Cuba, and the heroic Cuban people on the occasion of the 72nd anniversary of the historic attack on the Moncada Barracks.
The electrifying assault on Moncada on 26 July 1953, marked the beginning of an irreversible revolutionary process—one that would shake the foundations of imperialist domination in Latin America and inspire millions across the Global South. Though the attack itself did not achieve immediate victory, it set in motion the glorious 26th of July Movement, which, under the leadership of Comrade Fidel Castro, would ultimately liberate Cuba from the clutches of U.S. imperialism and its puppet dictatorship. The torch lit that day continues to burn brightly, illuminating the path of resistance for all oppressed peoples struggling against exploitation and foreign domination.
We also take this opportunity to honour the immense sacrifices made by Cuban internationalist fighters in support of liberation movements across Africa, particularly in Angola, where Cuban blood was shed to defeat apartheid forces and secure the independence of nations. Cuba’s unwavering solidarity with the oppressed peoples of the world stands as a shining example of proletarian internationalism, proving that a small island nation, when guided by socialist principles, can defy empires and change the course of history.

The bonds between our two parties and peoples are deep and historic, forged in the fires of anti-imperialist struggle. We fondly recall the visit of the legendary Comrade Che Guevara to Sri Lanka in 1959, where he met with progressive forces and reaffirmed the solidarity between our revolutions. Today, as Cuba faces a brutal and unjust economic blockade designed to suffocate its socialist project, we reaffirm the unwavering solidarity of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka with the Communist Party of Cuba. No amount of imperialist aggression can extinguish the flame of the Cuban Revolution, and we stand ready to strengthen our mutual cooperation in the face of these challenges.
Long live the Cuban Revolution!
Long live the unbreakable solidarity between our parties and peoples!
Hasta la Victoria Siempre!
Fraternally,

Dr. G. Weerasinghe
General Secretary
Communist Party of Sri Lanka
