Message on social media from Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic of Cuba

CUBA DOES NOT THREATEN, CUBA IS CONSTANTLY THREATENED

In more than six decades of socialist Revolution, just ninety miles from the United States, not a single offensive action against that country’s national security has ever originated from Cuban territory.

On the contrary—and this has been proven, documented, and even acknowledged by international organizations and U.S. agencies from previous administrations—Cuba has contributed to the United States in preserving its security in the fight against various forms of transnational crime.

Far from posing any threat to the U.S., Cuba has been the target of countless offensive actions orchestrated from that territory throughout all these years of Revolution, leaving thousands of Cubans wounded or dead.

Cuba has had to work, with firmness and serenity, to confront the threats coming from the United States, and we will continue to do so to the ultimate consequences.

To label Cuba as a threat is, first of all, cynical. History proves it, and current facts confirm it: every day a new threat emerges from the U.S. against Cuba.

To portray Cuba as a threat, while imposing additional coercive measures and accusing its government of being incapable of sustaining even a minimal economy, is so incoherent and fanciful that even those who promote this thesis cannot support it with solid arguments.

It is all part of a constructed narrative aimed at further suffocating the Cuban people, while escalating toward a conflict that could have unimaginable consequences for our peoples and our region.

Cuba does not threaten, nor challenge, but neither does it fear.
