Message of Solidarity on the 72nd Anniversary of the Assault on Moncada Barracks from Friends of Cuba in Sri Lanka

His Excellency Andrés Marcelo González Garrido Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Embassy of the Republic of Cuba
Colombo, Sri Lanka
Your Excellency,

On behalf of the professionals and youth of Sri Lanka, Friends of Cuba in Sri Lanka extends warm greetings and heartfelt solidarity to the people of Cuba on the occasion of the 72nd anniversary of the historic assault on the Moncada Barracks.
The valiant action undertaken on July 26, 1953, by Fidel Castro and his fellow revolutionaries marked a defining moment in Cuba’s path toward independence, dignity, and social justice. Although the attack was suppressed, its spirit ignited the flames of resistance that ultimately led to the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959. We in Sri Lanka draw deep inspiration from this legacy of determination and sacrifice in the face of overwhelming adversity.
Our association, Friends of Cuba – Sri Lanka, was founded during the global COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, moved by the extraordinary humanitarian service of the Henry Reeve International Medical Brigade. Their fearless deployment across the globe during a time of crisis, including in countries overwhelmed and helpless, earned the admiration of the world. We proudly joined the international campaign to nominate the Brigade for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2021, a recognition they richly deserve.
Since then, we have continued to work tirelessly to strengthen the bonds of solidarity between the people of Sri Lanka and Cuba. We stand firmly:
•    Against the unjust and cruel economic blockade imposed by the United States, which continues to cause untold suffering to the Cuban people.
•    In protest of the politically motivated designation of Cuba as a "State Sponsor of Terrorism", a baseless accusation aimed at undermining Cuban sovereignty and the right of its people to determine their future.
•    In opposition to the recent U.S. travel bans imposed on Cuban leaders, which represent yet another interference in the affairs of a sovereign nation.

We believe these hostile actions are not only violations of international norms but also insults to the values of human dignity and peaceful coexistence. Cuba's unwavering commitment to healthcare, education, and global solidarity, even under immense pressure, remains a shining example to the world.
As you commemorate this 26th of July, we, the Friends of Cuba – Sri Lanka, reaffirm our enduring commitment to support the Cuban people, defend their revolution, and amplify the voice of justice on behalf of all sovereign nations.
May the legacy of Moncada continue to inspire future generations.
With highest respect and revolutionary greetings,

M M S Moremada
