Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives of Thailand welcomes the Ambassador of Cuba

BANGKOK, October 19, 2017.- The Cuban Ambassador to Thailand, Héctor Conde Almeida, was welcomed today by the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives of the Kingdom of Thailand, General Chatchai Sarikulya, who reiterated the condolences of the people and government of Thailand for the death on November 25, 2016 of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and thanked the messages of condolence of the Cuban People and Government for the death on October 13 of the same year of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX).

In the cordial meeting the good path of bilateral relations between the two countries was confirmed and the mutual willingness to continue strengthening them was reiterated, with special mention to the historical significance of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between both countries to be celebrated in May 2018.

As part of the exchange, ways and means of raising the level of bilateral cooperation in agriculture, food security and direct bilateral trade in agricultural products were assessed; including training and transfer of technology. Both parties agreed to work on an updated Memorandum of Understanding proposal that includes these issues. The events to be held in 2018, in Cuba, on organic and sustainable agriculture, agro-technologies of medicinal plants, as well as agricultural engineering, among others, were evaluated as good opportunities for interaction.

The Cuban Ambassador thanked the Minister, the Government and people of Thailand for their support of the United Nations Resolution on the need to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US government against Cuba and conveyed congratulations to the promulgation, on 6/4/2017, of the Constitution no. 20 since the transformation in 1932 of the absolute Monarchy into Constitutional Monarchy.
