Abuja, October 20, 2023.- The Minister of Education of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Professor Tahir Mamman received this afternoon the Ambassador of Cuba in that country, Miriam Morales Palmero in a cordial courtesy visit, at the Ministry's headquarters. of Education.
During the meeting, the Ambassador mentioned the high number of young Africans who graduated in Cuba in different branches of medicine, sports and engineering. She added that due to the blockade imposed by the United States government, the country's economic situation had deteriorated greatly, however the Cuban people and government would always be present to support their African brothers. Ambassador Miriam Morales thanked her for such a warm visit, at the same time that she extended her invitation to participate in the 2024 University Congress that will be held in Havana from February 5 to 9.
The Cuban representative conveyed the importance that the Cuban government gives to education at all levels, as it is one of the achievements of the Revolution when since 1959 it was decided that it would be completely free, the result of which has been 100% literacy. of the population. She mentioned the Yo Si Podemos program, implemented in countries such as Guinea Bissau, Angola and Tanzania to reduce illiteracy levels in the population.
For his part, the minister added that this was the largest Ministry in Nigeria, as it covered all educational levels, hence the arduous task that he was implementing to improve the quality of education in his country. He recognized the achievements of the Cuban Revolution in this matter and conveyed his interest in continuing to strengthen ties between the institutions of Cuba and Nigeria.
