Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of Ghana receives the Ambassador of Cuba

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of the Republic of Ghana, Ms. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, received the Ambassador of Cuba, Pedro Luis Despaigne González.

Both parties ratified the solidity of bilateral ties and their interest in continuing to advance in their strengthening.

The Cuban Ambassador updated the Ghanaian Minister on the negative impact that the more than 240 measures adopted by the United States government in the period from 2017 to January 2021 have had on the Cuban economy, as part of the tightening of the economic, commercial and financial blockade against the island. In this sense, he thanked Ghana's traditional support for the Cuban resolution on the need to put an end to this genocidal policy, and brought up the vote on the next Cuban resolution at the UN General Assembly on June 23rd, when the world reiterates the message to the new US administration about the need to end the criminal policy that violates international law.

The Ghanaian minister ratified Ghana's historic position of rejection of the blockade against Cuba.

At the meeting, the Cuban Ambassador gave the Ghanaian official a letter sent to her by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla.

Also present at the meeting were Mr. Emmanuel Antwi, Chief of Protocol of the Foreign Ministry; Mr. Maxwell Nyarko-Lartey, Director in the office of the Minister; as well as Mr. Humphrey C. Ajongbah and Ms. Dora A. Enchill, director and assistant director of the Americas Bureau, respectively; while by the Cuban embassy also did the Consular Officer Raisa Burón Anglada. (Cubaminrex-Embacuba Ghana)
