The Minister of Health and Welfare of Barbados, Jeffrey Bostic, accompanied by his deputy minister, June Chandler, and several directors who make up his team, comprehensively reviewed various feasible programs for their implementation taking advantage of the cooperation that Cuba offers, using different modalities to introduce in the country several biotechnological products such as Heberprot-P and vaccines against cancer among other advanced medicines, applying a technical assistance program to deal with Alzheimer's disease, and developing health tourism as well.
In a meeting with the Cuban ambassador, Francisco Fernández, the Minister agreed on the importance of such programs, which would have a great impact on improving the quality of life of the population, so he decided to submit them to a collegiate evaluation and to define the priorities for its short-term implementation, since they are functional to the interests of the new government led by Prime Minister Mia Mottley.
On the other hand, the Ambassador pointed out that his government is in the best position to sign a Memorandum of Understanding grouping the areas of mutual interest and helps to channel compliance with the cooperation, including sending the medicines and hiring the experts required to train the personnel involved in the administration of medical treatments, in the elaboration of a national plan for facing mental illnesses, as well as in the necessary advice to develop a health tourism project that could be extended to other Caribbean islands.
