Minister of Health of Santa Lucia attends a ceremony to award scholarships granted by Cuba to students from this country.

The Honourable Mary Isaac, Minister of Health and Wellness of Saint Lucia and Alejandro Simancas Marín, Ambassador of Cuba to this country, formally awarded scholarships to the new students entering the upcoming Academic years studying different specialties in Cuba. In an emotional activity at the Embassy of Cuba, the group of young people selected, accompanied by their families signed the Grant Form through which they were formally granted the scholarship and, also, the Code of Ethics for Foreign Students in Cuba.

Dr Brittney Dalson, a graduate of Cuba and now studying for her specialty in Paediatrics, read the postulates of the Code of Ethics, which contains the values and principles that should characterize the behavior and commitment of the students. Minister Mary Isaac acknowledged the generosity of Cuba in giving them this opportunity and asked the students to take advantage of it by learning as professionals and also about the positive values of Cuban society.  Ambassador Alejandro Simancas, for his part, recalled that the scholarships awarded are part of close bilateral relations based on friendship, solidarity and cooperation and called on the students to return to Saint Lucia having become excellent professionals and better human beings.

Dr. Claudia Louis, Director of Planning at the Ministry of Education also gave a speech. In addition, Peter Lansiquot, Vice President of the Humanistic Solidarity Association Saint Lucia - Cuba, and Jamal Francis, President of the Guild of Graduates in Cuba presented their experiences during their years of University in Cuba and recalled with anecdotes everything they had learned. Before the activity began, all the students and guests paid tribute to the National Hero of Cuba, Jose Marti, before the bust of whom near the Embassy, they placed a floral offering.
