Georgetown, May 3, 2018. Ambassador Narciso Reinaldo Amador Socorro was received by Hon. Volda Lawrence, Minister of Public Health and Member of Parliament of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana. The meeting took place in a friendly atmosphere and both officials expressed their satisfaction with the high level of cooperation between Guyana and Cuba in the field of public health and confirmed the interest of the governments of both countries to continue working to make better use of the capacities of Cuban medical personnel and to achieve an increasingly high quality service to the Guyanese population.
The Minister welcomed her recent visit to Cuba to participate in the scientific event “Cuba Salud 2018”, during which she appreciated the progress made by the Cuban public health system and hold talks with the authorities of the Ministry of Public Health of the Caribbean archipelago.
The Ambassador confirmed to the Minister the commitment of the Government of Cuba to continue to provide medical assistance to the brotherly Guyanese people. The Cuban Medical Cooperation Brigade in Guyana currently comprises 191 specialists working in eight of the country's ten regions.
