Minister of State of Jamaica recognizes Cuban cooperation in Education

The Honourable Alando Terrelonge, MP, Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information of Jamaica, acknowledged the importance of the collaboration Cuba provides to this sister Caribbean nation on the occasion of the 11th Conference on Foreign Languages held last Thursday at the Jamaica Conference Centre in this capital.

Kingston, Jamaica, 11 February 2020. The Honourable Alando Terrelonge, MP, Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information of Jamaica, acknowledged the importance of the collaboration Cuba provides to this sister Caribbean nation on the occasion of the 11th Conference on Foreign Languages held last Thursday at the Jamaica Conference Centre in this capital.

The Jamaican minister, who delivered the keynote address at the aforementioned conference, referred to the contribution to the teaching of the Spanish language made by the Cuban teachers who have rendered their services in Jamaica for more than twenty years.

Cuban educational collaboration in Jamaica dates back to 1997 and is provided on the basis of the Cooperation Agreement signed by the Ministries of Education of Cuba and Jamaica, allowing Cuban teachers and professors to serve in educational institutions of all levels.

At present, 75 Cuban teachers work in every corner of the Jamaican geography, teaching in the same number of educational institutions, with a total enrolment amounting to 44,025 among children, teenagers and youth.
