The Minister of Youth and Sports of Ghana, Mr. Isaac Kwame Asiamah, received the Ambassador of Cuba to Ghana, Pedro Luis Despaigne González at the headquarters of his Ministry.
The Minister and the Ambassador held a job interview in which they analyzed the preparations for the visit to Cuba of a delegation from that ministry, which will participate in the 7th International Convention of Physical Activity and Sport (AFIDE 2017), invited by the President of INDER, Dr. Antonio E. Becalli.
The Minister of Sports reiterated the interest in resuming collaboration in the sports field, especially in boxing, a very popular sport in Ghana and in which historically Ghanaian boxers have obtained important results and pronounced in favor of training in Cuba of young people in the specialties of Physical Culture and Sports. He requested to hold a meeting with the President of INDER to thank Cuba for supporting the development of the sport in his country.
The Ambassador reiterated Cuba’s willingness to work jointly with Ghana to promote sports collaboration. In addition, it will be the first visit to Cuba by a member of the current government of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The Minister was accompanied by Mr. Emmanuel Agyei Anwhere, Member of the Parliament of Ghana; Mr. Frank Quist, General Director of the Ministry; Dr. Emmanuel Owusu Ansah, Technical Director; Mr. Elvis Adjei-Baah and Ms. Gifty Eghan, Ministry officials. The First Secretary of the Embassy of Cuba, Julio César Sánchez also participated in the meeting.
