The Ministers of Public Health of the Kingdom of Thailand, Clin. Prof. Emeritus Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, M.D. and of the Republic of #Cuba, Dr. Roberto Morales Ojeda, signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation between the two Nations.
The rubric took place as part of the works of the III International Convention "Cuba-Health 2018", an event that between 23 and 27 April has the participation of more than 2,000 representatives of 80 countries, 50 Ministers and the Directors General of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
The visit of the Minister of Thailand and his large delegation to #Cuba takes place within the framework of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries, to be marked on 15/5/2018.
The Thai delegation visited primary health-care centers in #Cuba, biotechnology development institutions such as the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB), the Center for Molecular Immunology (CIM) and the Carlos J. Finlay vaccines Institute. The Thai delegation also held bilateral meetings with the Ministry of Public Health of #Cuba.
On 6/10/2017 Thailand and Cuba established the joint venture "Abinis", between CIMAB, S.A. and Siam Bioscience Co., Ltd. in the field of biotechnological applications and medical-pharmaceutical production.
The mutual cooperation in this important scientific field between Thailand and #Cuba, an example of fruitful South-South cooperation, is aimed at developing, producing and commercializing high-quality effective bio-pharmaceuticals for the treatment of cancer, autoimmune diseases and diabetes. Its main purpose is to allow better medical care, with world-class products at affordable prices, helping to improve the quality of life in Southeast Asian countries.
#Cuba and Thailand were the first and second countries in the world, in 2015 and 2016 respectively, to be validated by the World Health Organization (WHO) for having eliminated the transmission of the acquired immunodeficiency virus (HIV-AIDS) and syphilis from mother to child.
