Myanmar and Cuba promote cooperation in multilateral forums

YANGON, September 18, 2019. The Hon. Mr. Kyaw Tint Swe, Minister for the Office of the State Counselor and Chancellor of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the concurrent Ambassador of Cuba, Héctor Conde Almeida, held a meeting on key topics on the Agenda of the 74 UN General Assembly.

In the exchange, in which officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Asian nation participated, both sides reaffirmed the importance of promoting South-South cooperation and maintaining close cooperation in the various multilateral forums, including those related to the achievement of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, the Latin America-East Asia Cooperation Forum (FEALAC); the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM); the Paris Agreement on climate change; as well as support for the United Nations Treaty of total prohibition of nuclear weapons.

The Cuban diplomat thanked the People and the Government of Myanmar for the continued support to the United Nations Resolution on the need to put an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US government against Cuba, to be voted in 2019 for the 28th time.
