NAY PYI TAW, August 21, 2019.- The Minister of Health and Sports of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Dr. Myint Htwe, welcomed the concurrent ambassador of Cuba, Héctor Conde Almeida.
In the cordial meeting the good path of bilateral relations was confirmed and the mutual will to continue strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between both nations was reiterated.
The Cuban diplomat announced the celebration next year of the International Convention "Cuba-Health 2021", a conclave that constitutes an excellent opportunity for the exchange of experiences and for the identification of bilateral and triangular cooperation actions. Myanmar's first historical participation in this important event was in “Cuba-Health 2018”.
The Minister and the Ambassador of Cuba stressed the importance of the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in the public health sector and highlighted the potential of cooperation in the field of health within the framework of the Association of Nations of the Southeast Asia (ASEAN).
Both sides agreed on the importance of promoting South-South cooperation and the fulfillment of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The Ambassador of Cuba thanked the Minister, the government and people of Myanmar, for that nation's support to the United Nations Resolution on the need to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government against Cuba.
