Nahide Özkan denounces the impact of the embargo on Cuba in an interview on İlke TV

The president of the Asociación de Amistad José Martí de Cuba, Nahide Özkan, gave an interview in which she addressed the current situation in Cuba and informed about upcoming solidarity initiatives.

During her appearance on the program Güncel Yorum, broadcast on İlke TV, Özkan highlighted that the country is facing a serious energy crisis, describing it as one of the most urgent challenges affecting daily life on the island.“In the coming days, we plan to launch a campaign to send solar panels that will at least partially cover Cuba’s energy needs, which are currently its most important and urgent necessity,” she stated.

The interview, which also featured Banu Güven, Ercüment Akdeniz and Denizcan Abay, addressed the broader impact of the U.S. embargo on Cuba.

Özkan noted that, while the policy has not led to the collapse of the country, it has caused significant economic and social damage.“The embargo imposed by the United States (…) has not, of course, led Cuba to collapse. But it is evident that it has caused enormous harm,” she said.

The upcoming initiative aims to provide partial relief through renewable energy solutions, in a context marked by ongoing limitations in electricity supply and structural challenges within Cuba’s energy system.
