A delegation from the Namibian Film Commission, headed by its chairperson, Ms. Esther Beukes, is participating in the 46th edition of the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema, taking place in Havana from December 4 to 14.
The young executive, a prominent figure in the Namibian film industry and recognized for her work as a filmmaker and producer, offered an update on cinema in this African nation during her presentation at MECLA-Isla Abierta 2025 (Latin American Film Market). This market, which was revived after being part of the early editions of the Havana festival, now returns with the intention of establishing itself as a permanent meeting point for filmmakers from the region.
The call attracted Esther, an active filmmaker who, through the film commission, contributes to rewriting the narrative of African cinema. MECLA-Isla Abierta offers an inclusive and dynamic vision, promotes the circulation of content and talent, opens innovative avenues for cooperation, and generates investment opportunities and strategic alliances.
The visit of the Namibian delegation, a first since the film festival's inception, proved to be an extraordinary experience in identifying new production strategies and exploring partnerships that will strengthen the circulation of African cinema on the international stage.
