Namibia reaffirms solidarity with Cuba

The Cuban ambassador to Namibia, Sergio Vigoa de la Uz, participated in the year-end briefing organized by Namibia's Minister of International Relations and Trade, H.E. Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, with the diplomatic corps accredited to this African nation.

“Since our last Meeting in August, we had a number of bilateral cooperation engagements with some of your countries. We held the First Session of the Namibia-Cuba Intergovernmental Commission for Bilateral Cooperation, which was hosted by the Government of Cuba from 29 September to 01 October 2025. I led the Namibian delegation, and the outcomes of the engagements have once again furthered our relations with the Cuban government and people”. Ashipala-Musavyi explained during the event's opening remarks.

The SWAPO Party member also reiterated that the policy of Namibia on Western Sahara, Palestine, Cuba, Sudan, Venezuela and the reform of the UN Security Council remains unchanged. She also expressed the hope that 2026 will yield progress on all these matters of global security importance.

The minister stated that, as diplomats, we fully understand the overarching significance of our biological relations, cooperation and trade. “We want to thank you all for the efforts made and undertakings in enhancing our bilateral relations,” she said.

In an exchange with the Cuban ambassador, she recalled fond memories of her visit to Cuba and inquired about the current situation in the country, especially the recovery of the eastern part of the island after Hurricane Melissa; and how the current threat to stability and peace in the Caribbean affects Cuba.
