Namibia Strongly Condemns U.S. Blockade Against Cuba at UNGA81

The President of Namibia, Her Excellency Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, urged the international community to lift the sanctions imposed by the United States on Cuba—illegal measures that violate sovereignty and the United Nations Charter.

During the General Debate of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the President strongly condemned the sanctions, which undermine the economic, financial, and commercial stability of the largest of the Antilles.

"We call for the lifting of the unjustified economic embargo against Cuba, which has had far-reaching consequences for the Cuban economy and the well-being of its people, including access to essential goods and services," the leader stated.

The U.S. government's archaic, unjust, and criminal policy is the primary obstacle to the development and well-being of Cuban society, in addition to being a flagrant violation of human rights.

" We call for the end to the energy siege on Cuba, and her removal from the unilateral list of States allegedly sponsoring terrorism" , declared the President, who also leads the SWAPO Party.

The blockade and energy-strangulation measures—presented under the absurd and ridiculous justification of deeming Cuba an "unusual and extraordinary threat" to U.S. national security and foreign policy—aim to justify the U.S. government's genocidal actions against the Cuban people and potential military aggression.

Namibia's stance at UNGA81 continues the historical ties between the two countries, reinforced by ongoing acts of solidarity in which Nandi-Ndaitwah has reiterated that "Namibia must stand with Cuba in its most difficult hour."
