Namibian President Pays Tribute to Fidel Castro
Windhoek, Jun 5 (Prensa Latina) Namibian President Hage G. Geingob, gave a trbute to Cuban Revolution historical leader Fidel Castro Ruz Monday.
Geingob said that Fidel Castro was a man that became a symbol of real friendship, at the opening speech for the 5th Continental African Solidarity Conference with Cuba, in session for three days in the capital of Namibia.
He stated that though Fidel Castro knew that Cuba needed all its resources for the construction of the Cuban Revolution, he offered military, social and economic support to the peoples of Asia, Africa and Latin America.
He said that the slogan of the event (Intensifying Solidarity and Keeping the Legacy of Fidel Castro and Che Guevara) is the most appropriate, in moments in which the world claims for leaders with moral bases, principles and the leadership Fidel Castro and Che Guevara possessed. 'Cuba and Africa have and will keep on having fraternal relations, that we need to translate in strong commercial links,' he stated.
Geingob reminded that Namibia and Cuba signed several agreements in the last decades, and assured that to widen cooperation in several spheres, they need to create a Joint Cooperation Commission.
He remembered that the liberation of the Cuban Five is still celebrated, and that such a release was only possible, because of the consistent support of the solidarity movements in the international arena.
He recalled that the first Conference of this kind was held in 1995 in South Africa, chaired by then President Nelson Mandela; the second in Ghana in 1997, led by the former President Jerry Rawling; the third in Angola in 2010 and the fourth in Ethiopia in 2012 in partnership with the African Union.
Among the objectives of the current meeting the Namibian President listed the recognition of the important work of support for Cuba on the basis of their solidarity actions, discuss priorities, agree on new strategies of working together and reaffirm historic and cultural ties between the peoples of Africa and Cuba.
