The President of Namibia, Nangolo Mbumba, paid tribute this Wednesday to the National Hero of Cuba José Martí, before the urn that houses his remains in the Santa Ifigenia heritage cemetery in Santiago de Cuba.
Later, the president placed a wreath, "in the name of the people of Namibia", before the monument that houses the ashes of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, who founded close ties of friendship between the two nations and with Sam Nujoma, Historical Leader of the sub-Saharan nation.
Writing in the cemetery's visitor book, Mbumba described the moment as very emotional for him and his family and expressed his hope that the spirit of the Cuban heroes continues to inspire future generations to foster love between the two peoples and countries.
At the conclusion of the official visit to the Caribbean nation, the president was bid farewell on the tarmac of the Antonio Maceo international airport by the vice governor of Santiago de Cuba, Waldis González Peinado.
During his stay in Cuba in Nangolo Mbumba, he was awarded the José Martí Order, the highest decoration granted by the Cuban State, and he held official conversations with President Miguel Díaz-Canel.
